FFXIV Beginners Crafting Guide

The Final Fantasy series has never been shy about offering its players an abundance of epic content, with the additional mini-games accompanying its storyline. Crafting is one of the many activities available to users, and it can prove rather beneficial, creating some striking outfits, epic weaponry, and much more. However, getting to grips with crafting and the mechanics of it all can take up a large chunk of time, which is why we have brought this guide to our readers so they can get on their feet with this beginner crafting guide for FFXIV.
It is worth noting that crafting is not essential at the very beginning of your Final Fantasy journey. However, with the influx of players flocking to the game this year, we thought it was best to compile a guide to inform users when it is best to begin crafting, but most importantly, how to do it with ease. Players should also make sure they don’t leave themselves feeling overwhelmed. As the FFXIV crafting experience is somewhat different from that of other
MMORPG games, this game offers 8 Crafting Classes, hundreds of unique recipes, and 90 levels; there is undoubtedly a lot of content to absorb.

When To Begin
It is essential before players get caught up in all of the ongoings in FFXIV that they take a moment to step back and check out what the game has to offer. As in this instance, as mentioned, crafting is not vital for the beginning steps of a player’s journey, but it will become prevalent later in the game. To get on the right path when it comes to crafting, users must ensure they have reached level 20 and join the ‘Grand Company.’ This automatically unlocks the quest to acquire a Chocobo; players must complete this quest to move forward with their crafting endeavors.
What’s Next?
Once this quest is completed, the next essential part of this crafting guide is for players to travel through Grindania, Limsa Loninsa, and Ul’Dah to unlock each of the eight Disciple of the Hand class. This can be done by visiting the various guilds throughout the map. Though this is not strictly essential, as, with only one class in tow, players can craft armor, items, and weapons, they can not truly stand tall as a crafter unless they have all eight classes leveled.
So, let’s take a look at the different variations and what they provide the player:
Crafting Variations |
What they allow the player to craft |
Carpenter |
|
Armorer |
|
Leatherworker |
|
Weaver |
|
Goldsmith |
|
Blacksmith |
|
Alchemist |
|
Culinarian |

Why Level This Class?
With so much on offer in FFXIV, many players may ask themselves, why level the Crafting class? There are many reasons players choose to do so, whether they are tired of buying FFXIV Gil and wish to get their hands on some organically, they want to be more self-sufficient when it comes to building armor and items or wish to conduct self-repairs instead of seeking an NPC. Each crafting class opens up a world of content; even leveling one can offer gamers so much more content. So, if anything, this class will provide players with the opportunity to dive deeper
into the world of FFXIV.
Crafter-Specific Stats
These stats are found on Disciple of the Hand specific armor, primary tool, and secondary tools.
Additionally, certain recipes require a combination of these stats, so ensuring the requirements are met before beginning a craft is essential.
Craftsmanship
Increases the amount of progress gained when using Progress-increasing actions.
Control
Increases the amount of quality gained when using Quality-increasing actions.
CP
Resource spent when using most crafting actions.
Keep an Eye on that Bar
Progress Bar
When crafting an item, is to ensure the process bar is filled to capacity. Players primarily carry this out through the use of synthesis actions, and once the progress bar is at capacity, the item will be complete.
HQ Bar
Second, to crafting the item itself to completion, there is also the added action of creating a High Quality (HQ) item. Players must make an effort to fill the quality bar before finishing the item; this can be done often through touch actions. Unlike the Progress bar, however, the HQ bar does not need to be entirely full in order to acquire an HQ item; it simply improves the chances of doing so.
Durability
Another thing to keep a close eye on is the durability of the item being created. Every action taken in creating the item will degrade its durability. If the durability of the item in commission is to reach zero durability before completion, it will be destroyed. Unfortunately, this destruction comes with the possibility of losing the materials that were being used in creation. So it is vital that players keep their eyes on the durability of their item and never let it hit zero.
Leveling the Variations
There are many methods mentioned that players can use to level their crafting classes; however, in order to find balance, we suggest a combination of the following.
Levequests – Repeatable quests that are divided into Battlecraft Leves, Crafting Leves, and Gathering Leves. Each class possesses its own Levequests, and they will require players to craft and deliver specific items. Additionally, players can locate Guildleve NPCs in various locations, and they will be offered a quest. Keep in mind, though, that for each quest a player accepts, it will cost them one ‘Levequest allowance,’ and there are only six issued per day.
Beast Tribe Daily Quests – Similarly to Levequests, these quests are issued with a daily limit, this time the limit being three. Though players must take into consideration that the Beast Tribe Daily Quests do not always offer quests that are crafting-based, so we have compiled a list of the Beast Tribe Quests that do; make sure to look out for these:
Beast Tribe | Relevant Levels | Quest to Unlock |
Ixali | 1-50 | ’A Bad Bladder’ – Scarlet in New Gridania |
Moogle | 50-60 | ’Tricks and Stones’ –Seething Stonemason in The Churning Mists |
Namazu | 60-70 | ’One Size Fits All’ – Seigetsu the Enlightened in the Azim Steppe |
Dwarf | 70-80 | ’It’s Dwarfin Time’ – Affable Townsdwarf in Kholusia |
And despite the possibility of Ixali assisting in this area, the time is taken to complete this
particular quest is far too tedious for the rewards given, so we would advise taking up this
method once players reach 50.
Collectibles
This method will come into play at level 50, Collectibles are a form of crafting that creates a Collectible following a successful craft. So, much like the HQ bar creating a high-quality item, players will keep their eyes on the Collectible bar to increase the item’s collectibility. And, of course, the higher this collectibility, the better the rewards received.
Grinding
The first time a recipe is crafted in FFXIV, players receive a one-time bonus of XP. To grind, players focus on only carrying out recipes that have not yet been completed. This means that they can collect all of the one-time bonuses, but this method will mean players need a vast inventory of materials to ensure they are able to craft each item.
Ishgardian Restoration
When in Foundation, players have access to the Firmament; because of this, they are able to take part in the Ishgardian Restoration. Players from levels 10-90 can find tons of activities to take part in and craft many items. Oftentimes players simply gather materials in the Diadem and turn them into restoration-exclusive items; in turn, players hand them over to get experienced and Skybuilders scrips.
